VOLUNTEER TO SERVE ON A CHAMBER COMMITTEE
The Chamber has a strong tradition of volunteerism. It is the engine that drives our organization. Below are your Chamber’s active committees. Serve on one or more to both enhance your visibility, increase tourism, and address those concerns of importance to the business community. Any individual from a member company can participate.
BUILDING EXPANSION: Committee raises awareness of the need to address the shortcomings of our physical plant while raising funds to help pay for the construction and landscaping. Various fundraisers are being coordinated.
“VIRTU” ART FESTIVAL: Mark booth spaces, help artists unload, provide breaks and coordinate breakdown.
*PAWCATUCK RIVER DUCK RACE: Committee recruits prizes and volunteers. Race to be held in April.
RIVER GLOW: Committee recruits volunteers and sets up floating bonfires in river, maintains fires, serves food and conducts event breakdown.
GREAT ESCAPE AUCTION: Helps secure auction items for the Chamber’s annual dinner in June.
SANTA’S ARRIVAL: Helps with crowd control and the distribution of candy, coloring books and lollipops to more than 2,000 children.
*ATHENA AWARD: Committee reviews nominations for the prestigious Athena Award and makes selection of award recipient. Scholarship applications are reviewed and awards are made to high school seniors.
FUSION: Committee sells tickets, recruits food and beverage participants, and recruits artists & models for the live body painting.
WESTERLY LIGHT PARADE: Committee secures participation of businesses and nonprofit organizations for this evening spectacle. Staging assistants also needed.
STONINGTON LOBSTER TRAP TREE: Helps deliver, collect & photograph buoys from artists. Helps erect tree or take photos for visitors while serving as a tree docent.
STARRY LIGHTS: Committee helps transport and set up the sculptures.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS: Members of the Chamber's Board make up the following: Citizen of the Year, Nominating Committee, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors of the Ocean Community Chamber Foundation.
SUNDAY FUNDAYS: Helps load, set-up, and breakdown the tents and mini golf course for the spring and fall events.
CANDIDATES FORUM: Works in collaboration with WBLQ radio and Westerly Sun/Mystic River Press to execute a free, firm and fair forum for the community. The Chamber is apolitical and never endorses or promotes a particular candidate or party.
