New England Rum: A Taste of History
Join us for a guided tour through the fascinating history and endless variety of New England's best-known spirit! Most people associate rum with the Caribbean, and while that's where it was invented the drink soon became inextricably linked with coastal New England. We'll delve into why this spirit played such a foundational role in the economy of the fledgling colonies, examine the far-reaching cultural impact its trade had on the world, and discover how rum became one of the original commercial success stories in the profitable reuse of food waste! Along the way, you'll enjoy a master tasting of five different rums, all led by internationally-renowned spirits author and educator Anthony Caporale, Director of Spirits Education at New York's award-winning Institute of Culinary Education. If you live, eat, and especially drink in New England, you won't want to miss this extraordinary installment of our Preserving the Bounty program!
