About Us
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a global, independent, lay Catholic organization that provides basic needs and homelessness prevention assistance. In Westerly, we operate through the St. Catherine Labouré Conference. Our members and volunteers are parishioners from the four local Catholic churches and our mission is to build a more just world through personal relationships with and service to people in need. We fulfill our mission with home visits that provide direct financial aid disbursed to landlords, utility companies, and other service providers to help our neighbors. We also provide food and personal care items through our local Food Pantry.
We make no distinction in those we serve. We serve those in our community that face utility shutoffs, evictions, homelessness, lack of medicine, medical bills, car repairs, and other needs. We are often called upon to collaborate with other organizations to provide assistance that is beyond their individual financial limits.
The poor do not live in distant places, they are our neighbors. We see them everyday. They are no different than any of us except life has given them more challenges to overcome and we make it our responsibility to be there to help them.
